The residents of Meadow Well in North Shields wanted to join the 'Playing Out' movement, giving children in the area the opportunity to play out safely in their local streets. Helix Arts, a charity that uses art to create change in communities were supporting the initiative and commissioned me to create a design toolkit which would help give the project an easily recognisable, impactful identity.

Initially we met with the residents to discuss the aims of the toolkit and to find out more about the key messages the identity and assets should convey. They wanted to use illustration and bright colours to give a fun and playful feel to the designs and also felt it was really important to get across a sense of community and warm welcome for everyone - young and old.
I started by creating a fun and vibrant identity and colour palette which could be used flexibly across the assets. Next I created bold colourful illustrations representing a diverse range of people. I put these together in a poster for feedback before applying the finalised design across the rest of the assets including Canva templates which could easily be updated by the project leaders.
